THE ADVENTURES OF TOLU (T.A.O.T)
I finally got a chance to see the pastor. I entered his office, that was around past 7pm….
Me: Good evening sir (Trying to prostrate)
Pastor: God bless you my brother! Please sit down (Pointing at a seat)
Me: Thank you sir! My name is Tolu Williams. I have been through a lot in my life sir. As a matter of fact, I did not grow up in Lagos, I grew up in Ibadan. But when I lost my mum on my 7th birthday, my dad married our house help…. (I narrated the whole story to him)…. That was how The woman sent me out of her house, and I’ve been homeless sir.
Pastor: That’s serious. But why did you let the devil use your emotions and lust to send you out of that kind woman’s house?
Me: Pastor sir! It wasn’t my fault, her daughter threatened that I was going to be sent out of the house if I don’t conform to her wishes.
Pastor: Now that you you did what she wanted, are you still in the house?
Me: (Looking down) No sir.
Pastor: There is nothing you gain from submitting to the devil. He will always find a way to present sin as the better option. But trust me, sin is never an option to consider, because of the grave consequences. But now that you are born-again, I welcome you to the faith. The bible says in 2nd Corinthians, chapter 5 and verse 17 (Opened his bible and gave me to read.
Me: (I collected the bible and read.) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Pastor: Now that you’re in Christ. It’s a new beginning for you. Your past is over. You are born anew….
The pastor’s words gave me hope. I was really elated. A part of me was thinking “will this pastor not help me? I need a place to live in. Even if I can live in church”. I thought to myself. The pastor continued.
Pastor: Let us pray… (I closed my eyes and bow my head) Father we thank you for everything you’ve done for us. We thank you for your son. We thank you for his salvation. We pray that you accept all our thanks…. Father we pray, that you help him to live a life that shows and expresses your grace in Jesus name….Thank you for you’ve answered. In jesus name we have prayed.
Pastor: From now on, you are going to live with me. The lord has a plan for your life.
Me: (Postrated in excitement and gratitude). Thank you sir. I promise not to disappoint you sir. Thank you sir!
That was how Pastor Paul Alakija accepted that I should start living with him. I was the last person that waited to see him. So, he asked me to put my load in the boot of his car then we went to his house. His house was at Obalende area in Lagos. It was about forty-five minutes drive from the church because the road was quite free.
When we got to his house, he hooted and his daughter came to open the gate. I came down from the car and took my bag from the boot. The pastor’s daughter was giving me the ‘who-are-you’ kind of look. “Welcome Daddy” She greeted her dad. “How are you Damilola, how was school today?” He asked. “It was fine sir”. She answered, and we entered the house. We met the Pastor’s wife at the sitting room. She came to hug her husband welcome immediately. “How is everything? How’s Elijah’s health?” he asked. “He’s doing fine dear. He’s in the room, his temperature is now normal and he has stopped vomiting too. All thanks to God.” She said. She started looking at me and looking at her husband. With the same look that her daughter gave me. “Dear, who is this?” She asked her husband….
