The House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology earlier today frowned at the poor budget performance of the Energy Commission of Nigeria.
The Committee, chaired by Rep. Beni Lar said the about 5 percent budget performance of the commission was unacceptable with just seven weeks to the end of the fiscal year.
Rep. Beni Lar said the Committee would aid the commission to function optimally for Nigerians, especially the youth, so that the energy needed for development will be a steady achievement.
The Director-General, Energy Commission of Nigeria, Prof. Elli Bala Jidere, in the 2020 budget defense organised by the House Committee on Science and Technology, complained that the execution of some of the core mandates of the Commission was due to the shortfalls in releases from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation as a result of under-budgeting
According to him, the Internally Generated Revenue of the Commission has been completely remitted to the Federal government coffers. He also called for an improved 2021 budget for the commission in the 2021 budget to enable the Commission functions optimally.
