The Presidency says no fewer than 30,000 erstwhile N-Power beneficiaries have been hired as agric enumerators. The N-Power, cash-for-work programme, inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 with 500,000 of direct beneficiaries, is spread across the key industries targeted by the programme — Agriculture, Health, Education, and Tax. Mr Umar Ndashacba, the Programme Manager of National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) in Niger, said that no fewer than 14,000 jobs were created within two years of its existence in the state. The federal government has said it is targeting five million jobs in the agricultural sector. The initiative is to engage youths, women and the vulnerable in order to integrate them into the nation’s economy. The Federal Ministry of Communications and the National Identity Management Commission are working with the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure that all Nigerians who have Bank Verification Number (BVN) are given the National Identification Number (NIN). Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who disclosed this when he visited different National Identity Management Commission enrolment centres in Abuja, observed that NIN was the only mandatory number and the primary identification of Nigerians over as every other identification. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC),yesterday said it realized over N2.015trillion from Premium Motors Spirit(PMS),otherwise known as fuel consume in the country between November 2019 and November 2020. It also announced a trading surplus of N13.43billion for the month of November 2020 up by 54% when compared to the N8.71billion surplus recorded in October 2020.[Independent]
About 2.85 million farmers benefitted from the Anchor Borrowers Programme from the inception of the scheme to the end of 2020. According to figures obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday, N554.63bn had been disbursed, of which N61.02bn was allocated to 359,370 dry season farmers. It said the funds was disbursed to farmers cultivating 3,097,834 hectares across some commodities. [Punch]
The Federal Government has so far released N37bn (Survival Fund) as part of the implementation of its Economic Sustainability Plan aimed at cushioning the negative impact of COVID-19 on Nigerians. The fund covers schemes such as N50,000 Payroll Support for three months to over 300,000 beneficiaries; one-time grants of N30,000 to about 100,000 artisans, and 100,000 business name registrations paid for by the Federal Government. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has established and equipped an Infectious Disease Care Centre (DCC) and molecular laboratory at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo, Taraba State. Noting that this is in line with its mandate to support states in strengthening health security, a statement by the agency in Abuja revealed the establishment of the treatment centre and the laboratory is the result of the strong collaboration between the Federal and State Governments.
