The Premier League club has emerged the team with the most expensive squad. Pep Guardiola’s side is worth €1.04bn in terms of transfer fees.

City have made outrageous spending on transfer of stars as the trend of huge budget on players switch skyrocket in the last two decades with some elite players signed for a staggering €100million or more. According to Safe Betting Sites, English Premier league club Manchester City have spent more on signing players than any other club in Europe’s top 5 leagues. It was gathered that the current squad compiled by Pep Guardiola’s side is worth €1.04b in terms of transfer fees. A staggering €22million increase from the previous year and is also €148million more than the second most expensive squad, Paris St Germain, whose total squad is worth €888million in transfer fees. Stamford Bridge outfit Chelsea has the most remarkable increase from 2019 as Frank Lampard had additional €198million in transfer fees during the summer to take theirs to €761milion.
In other parts of Europe, German outfit Bayern Munich, Italian giants Juventus, French club PSG and Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid have the most expensive squads in their respective leagues.
And City could take the figure further as they have reportedly intensified their pursuit of Barcelona captain Lionel Messi after the club failed in their bid to sign the Argentine during the summer.
City are preparing to launch a bid for Messi to see him move to the Etihad Stadium during the January transfer window after missing out on the super star earlier. Messi is said to be in frosty relationship with the Spanish club and his contract expires next summer, but Barcelona are desperate for money.
